After Holy becomes ill with a strange disease, Kira plans to steal a Locacaca fruit in order to cure her. A boy that a young Kira saved while working with his mother, Josefumi Kuujou, assists Kira in stealing the Locacaca. However, they are soon after hunted down by the Rock Human organization and Kira is fatally wounded. In hopes of saving Kira, Josefumi feeds Kira the stolen Locacaca and they are soon after swallowed by the Wall Eyes, causing them to undergo equivalent exchange. Parts of Kira's body merge with Josefumi, creating Jousuke Higashikata.
