Yui

Yui is a character appearing in the "Thread of Light" episode. After a difficult childbirth, she gained the ability to see Mushi and the "ether of life" — glowing threads that connect souls to the River of Light. She uses this ether to weave a seamless, supernatural kimono for her son, Gen, to sustain his life force. Though she is a devoted mother, her family mistook her unique abilities for mental illness.

Her constant contact with pure ether eventually caused her soul to become "too steeped" in it. As a result, her physical body fell into a coma, while her consciousness transformed into an angel-like Mushi, allowing her to watch over Gen from above.
