During the war, he was captured and transformed into a monster by eNeMeE (NME). To save the galaxy, Meta Knight was forced to slay his former friend. However, his love for his son allowed him to resist total corruption in his final moments, leading him to entrust Meta Knight with a keepsake locket. This locket later served as a vital power amplifier, helping Knuckle Joe defeat the upgraded monster Masher.
