Ai Tanaka

As a human, Ai has long black hair fashioned in a hime cut with dark eyes. Her face is described to be "well organized," even before transformation. She has bright red lips, and wears the Umemizaki school uniform. As a Magical Girl, Princess Lightning has messy purple hair. The two strands of hair that frame her face and her bangs fade to yellow at the ends with streaks resembling bolts of lightning. The underside of her hair is yellow, and various streaks of her hair fade to black at the ends. She wears a silver pointed tiara with a glowing, purple jewel in the center. The glow of the jewel resembles bolts of lightning. Lightning wears an extremely short, black dress with a dark purple orb attached to the neckline.

Due to her status as a combination of a Shufflin series artificial magical girl and a Princess series one, Princess Lightning has indicators on her skin of her suit and number ranking. These markings are hidden on various places of her body, such as her hand as well as her collarbone.

Princess Lightning appears to be one of the most mysterious of the students from Class 2-F, having a playful personality and bearing a mischievous smile. She seems detached and untouchable. In White, Lightning is noted to have undergone a change in personality, much to the confusion of her classmates. Rather than being her enigmatic self, she is suddenly far more proactive in getting to know the other students of Class 2-F, even those outside of Group Three, and was amongst the most enthusiastic of the bunch about joining the school festival. She is also a huge glutton. Overall, her classmates described her as being rather eager and childish. However, when confronted with the apparent sudden change in her demeanor, Lightning acts coy, claiming that she hasn't noticed any abnormalities about herself.

The vast differences in Lightning's personalities in Black and White are later explained following the revelation that she is an artificial magical girl with multiple clone bodies; they were different people all along.

Princess Lightning can control electricity, being able to throw it as projectiles. She has also displayed the ability to absorb electricity from outside sources, rendering any such attacks against her useless.

It is later revealed that Princess Lightning is actually an artificial magical girl, akin to Shufflin and Shufflin Ⅱ, utilizing the "Princess Gems" of the Pure Elements. Similar to her predecessors, her consciousness is split between multiple bodies modeled after a deck of cards, ranked in strength based on their number.
