Together, they are tasked with taking Mitsuki's soul. His trademark shinigami attire resembles a cat costume, complete with a winged backpack that grants him the ability to fly—something he cannot do on his own, as he has yet to earn his true wings. Takuto also has the ability to transform into an anthropomorphic cat plushie. Using his powers, he transforms Mitsuki into her 16-year-old self to help her pursue her dream of becoming a singer.

Before becoming a shinigami, Takuto was a singer in Mitsuki's father's band and had met Mitsuki several times when she was a child. He was also the one who chose her name, as revealed in the manga.

At around sixtee16n years old, Takuto suffered from the same throat tumor that afflicts Mitsuki. After undergoing surgery, he lost his voice—the very thing that defined him. Unable to face life without the ability to sing, he attempted to take his own life: in the manga, by jumping from a hospital rooftop, and in the anime, by driving his motorcycle off a cliff. However, he did not truly die but instead fell into a coma, which explains his incomplete state as a shinigami.
